We won't be training you to avoid a long list of bad things you shouldn't do.

You'll be methodically relearning how to be strong and stable in compromised positions so that it actually becomes hard to hurt you.

Like my long-time client, Gary, who recently had a cycling accident at 64 years old. Despite flying over the handlebars at near 20mph, he wasn't even slightly harmed.

He raved to me in our next session that our training led to him being able to softly roll on the dirt and concrete instead of tensing and bracing for a hard impact like he would have before.

Instead of being injured, he just got up, finished his ride pain-free, and went about his day.

This is only one small example of the benefits of developing real world body control and mobility, and anyone can do it.

But you have to be willing to start where you are.

No skipped steps, no rushing or forcing — just consistent, daily micro-steps that snowball into true, long-term changes.

Changes in how your body FEELS as well as how it LOOKS and what it can DO.

We can't bring the soul back into fitness by rejecting the ego and magically not caring about things like how we look.

Ego carrots, as I like to call them, are an important part of the process. We rarely do what is good for us if we don't tether it to things that appeal to our egos.

The video below includes examples of Gary's ego carrots, which would make most 25 year old's jealous, despite him having zero gymnastics experience and coming to me after years of not even being able to exercise because of pain.

He told me that when we started, he couldn't even lift his morning coffee cup without pain and was physically incapable of running.

As a result of healing and strengthening his lower body, he even started hiking Camelback Mountain almost every day of the week for months at a time, and now he runs, hikes or cycles most days.

Your ego carrots could involve new skills, bigger muscles, hiking trips, dancing, pickleball dominance, or anything that sounds fun, interesting, or meaningful to you.

You may not even know you have them. As the saying goes, "a healthy man wants a thousand things, a sick man only wants one." The same goes for pain or physical blocks of any kind.

Your ego won’t address your real needs, but it’ll absolutely sabotage them if you don’t bring it along for the journey. It is part of you after all.

It's time to take all of your parts seriously and work toward both your wants and your needs without sacrificing one for the other.

True physical mastery includes both, as well as a genuine exploration of how to better operate these weird bodies that we live in.
